The winter chill can put such a damper on our fashion mojo. Bulky layers and clunky gear hardly scream out high couture.

But as Rachel Zoe demonstrates in our winter lookbook, dressing the wintry part doesn’t have to mean hiding underneath a coat all season long. With just a smidgen of imagination and a dash of gusto, we can brave the weather in flirty minis, airy blouses, and even our favorite shorts. And that routine winter coat? It transforms into a show-stopping dress in Rachel’s expert hands.

As with all good things, fashion fully returns to the classics this season with sure-fit tailoring and feminine silhouettes. Black & white is the reigning palette with splashes of sunny color that keeps our hopes eternal for the first signs of spring.

Look 1:

Fur is such a luxury item that also looks great with jeans and boots or thrown over a dress. This crisp, classic winter outfit evokes early Hollywood glamour with its grand yet sophisticated silhouette. Whites and neutrals also never go out of style. Skinny jeans like these are here to stay and look great tucked into boots.

Look 2:

Dresses with pockets are so fun and flirty! I love the playfulness of this look and how easy it is to go from day to night with the change of a shoe. The cropped jacket is a great layering piece because it keeps you warm without overwhelming the outfit underneath. Try this over dresses or experiment with different lengths by throwing it on over a long top and trouser shape.

Look 3:

I love this romper because it offers such a casual way to be stylish and playful at the same time. Dress it up with a fun pair of wedges or keep it casual with flats. Don’t hesitate to throw it on over tights and wear it with boots when the weather gets colder. This piece is as versatile as it is fun!

Look 4:

This bubble dress is such a sweet and youthful silhouette. The empire waist and pockets add a subtle twist to the little black dress. Zoe — she was Rachel Zoe Rosenzweig until her agent urged her to drop her last name — is one of a handful of sought-after Hollywood stylists who earn up to $6,000 a day. She dresses some of the world’s most visible teen idols for film junkets, premieres and magazine shoots. (Mischa Barton, Jennifer Garner, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson and Brittany Murphy are also clients.) As such, her power as an image maker cannot be underestimated. A recent entry on a Lohan fan site read: “I would do anything to look like her!”

It’s not that no one has ever done the bohemian chic look before. Kate Moss and Sienna Miller have a similar, much imitated style, mixing vintage with modern-day romantic pieces, and inspiring designers such as Chloe’s Phoebe Philo and Stella McCartney. For these English style icons, fashion is effortless. But in Hollywood, women are used to walking the red carpet. They have to look “done,” with every detail perfect, down to makeup and hair. So Zoe has created her own brand of studied effortless chic.

“I’m not trying to make people look like me,” she said during a recent interview at her Beverly Hills apartment, which has racks of designer clothing crammed in the entryway. “But when you spend a lot of time with someone, you rub off on each other. I think I’m kind of an older sister to Lindsay and Nicole.”

In fact, it’s not uncommon for Zoe, 33, to dress “her girls” as she calls them, out of her own overstuffed closet, full of free clothes given to her by designers in hopes that she or one of her clients will be photographed in them.

Zoe’s style is grounded in 1970s sex appeal — part biker chick, part disco denizen. During the day, she favors super-skinny jeans, sky-high studded or python stilettos by Gucci or Alexander McQueen, cropped Chanel jackets, and gold chains with shark-tooth charms from Kaviar and Kind. Her face is bronzed and her eyes lined and colored with frosted shadow. For evening, Zoe goes for drapey goddess gowns — vintage Chloe or Yves Saint Laurent, and always clingy. (A recent purchase from Decades was a one-shoulder purple chiffon Halston.)

She is the definitive model of a generation. The most super of them all. Her style is revered by fashion editors, designers, and fans the world over, and where she leads, the masses follow. She is an unrivalled style icon. We may not be blessed with her cheekbones, but we can all take inspiration from Kate’s stellar style.
Biography
Moss as born in Addiscombe, London Borough of Croydon, England. She attended Ridgeway Primary School, then Riddlesdown High School but she was not noted for her academic success. According to Vermorel’s book “Addicted to Love: Kate Moss” she gained one C (in Science) and all the rest were Ds, Es, and Us at GCSE level. However, Moss did excel at sports. She was discovered at the age of 14 by Sarah Doukas (the founder of Storm Model Management) in 1988, at JFK Airport in New York City, after a vacation in the Bahamas. Kate’s career began when Corinne Day shot black and white photographs of her for British magazine The Face when she was 15, in a photo shoot titled “The Third Summer of Love”. Moss then went on to become the anti-supermodel of the 1990s in contrast to the supermodels at the time, such as Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell, who were known for their curvaceous and tall figures. She ushered in the waif look in 1993 (which prompted much speculation over her weight) with a highly publicized campaign for Calvin Klein, including posing nude in ads for its perfume brand, Obsession. Moss charmed the fashion industry despite her height and has modeled for such elite houses including Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, Missoni, Dior, Longchamp and David Yurman. Now in her 30s, Moss is still working and has become a “supermodel” in her own right. She has a daughter, Lila Grace, born on 29 September 2002, with Dazed & Confused editor Jefferson Hack.

Campaigns
Moss has had campaigns with major Italian, French, American, and British designers including Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Burberry, Rimmel, and Bvlgari. She has been featured in fashion spreads in most major fashion magazines including UK, US, and French Vogue magazines (as well as other international versions of Vogue), Another Man, Vanity Fair, the Face, and W. Moss has appeared on the cover of Vogue 23 times and has been featured on the cover of 17 issues of W, including one issue with nine different covers featuring the model. W even names Moss its muse (September 2003 issue). She has worked with the most well-known photographers in the fashion industry today, such as Mario Testino, Mario Sorrenti, Steven Klein, and Juergen Teller, and is a Peter L “trained” model. She won the prestigious Vogue/CFDA award from the Fashion Designers of America in July 2005 as Fashion Inspiration. The haute couture dress she wore to the award ceremony was from the Christian Dior fall 2005 haute couture designed by John Galliano.

Style
In addition to being known for her modeling work, Kate Moss is also an international fashion icon.She has garnered many awards for her style including Award of Fashion Influence at the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s award and a place on the Vanity Fair’s international best-dressed list. She even appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s September 2006 style issue. Her style mostly draws inspiration from rock and roll. Due to her reputation, she is credited for setting numerous trends. In recent years she has popularized denim cutoff shorts,Ugg Australia boots, skinny jeans especially of the brands Sass & Bide and Siwy, the waistcoat, and the Balenciaga handbag, as well as bringing waist-cinching belts back into popularity.
